What is counselling and psychotherapy?
Counselling and psychotherapy provides a confidential, safe and supportive environment in which you can talk through any issues causing you difficulties or concern.
Both therapies can help you to make sense of your feelings, make changes in your life or come to terms with things that can’t be changed. It can help you to focus on issues and clarify them.
Why do people come for therapy?
People access therapy for all sorts of reasons including:
Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, self-harm, panic, unwanted thoughts, family and relationship problems, divorce, bereavement, past issues, childhood abuse, addiction, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, confidence issues….to name but a few.
However, some people don’t know why they are feeling the way they do and sometimes just don’t feel right. Therapy can help you to clarify what is going on and help you to feel in a more settled place.
How often are sessions and how long do they last?
Therapy sessions usually take place weekly and last for approximately 50 minutes.
How much do sessions cost?
The cost per session is £45. However, I do offer a reduced fee of £30 for students and those on benefits. Please do get in touch if you’d like to find out more about this.
As it is important to find a therapist you feel comfortable with and who is the right fit for you, I also offer a free 30 minute consultation so you can decide if you think working with me is the best option for you. During this session we can discuss what that might look like, and I can answer any questions you may have. At the moment, due to Covid-19, these will take place on the phone.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends entirely on yourself and the issues you bring to counselling. Some people come for just a few sessions and feel ready to stop whilst others may come for a year or so. This is something we can talk about and agree together and will become clearer as your counselling progresses.
Where do sessions take place?
All sessions take place at my office in North Shields town centre close to all public transportation links. You can view a map and find directions on my contact page here.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes, sessions are entirely confidential with the exception of disclosures of child protection and suicide risk.
